THE END OF MY STRIPPING

I’ve always wanted an old house but I know that it will never happen. So I am doing what I can to make my  home look old.
I fell in love with Layla and Kevin's “WONDER WALL” at “The Lettered Cottage”. They have an old house they are redoing and they uncovered the wall in their dining room and found this behind it.…

These kids are so cute and talented. I love visiting their blog and have gotten lots of inspiration from them. They too are remodeling their bedroom so they moved their bed into their dining room and put it in front of their Wonder Wall.

Well, can you see the wheels turning? That’s right! I took THESE

Made from these  FREE DOORS "STUPID"

And started to make my own WONDER WALL…

Of course I needed the help of one of my halves…

We got it all up….

I wanted to make sure that when I painted it, you could see the spaces so I used some old brown paint, I did this…

Then I painted it all white…

Then up went some 2 x 3’s. I’ve had these laying around since last summer when I was given a load of wood from a friend’s old deck. (Remember, I’m not spending any money on this room)…

I painted the 2 x 3’s before I put them up just to make it a little easier. I left a big spot in the middle because I wanted to hang my most favorite painting there….

My dear friend, Dede is a very talented artist and she painted this for me for my birthday over 22 years ago and it has held a very special part in my heart ever since. I wanted it to be the focal point of the whole wall…

I also had these cute frames that I have pictures of my babies in. (Yes they are all mine). These frames were the inspiration of the color I wanted to do my room in…

My bed made it’s way out of the living room thanks to this son…

And voilà….

I’m still tweaking and playing around with it but I love it. Thanks Layla and Kevin.

I love it when someone proves that you don't have to spend a ton of money to have a room that looks like it came out of a magazine. This has turned out beautiful!!!

Wow Grams! Your wall turned out awesome! It looks just like Layla and Kevin's. I've been drooling over theirs for a while now! Love the turquoise with the white.

WOW!

It looks great!

We were so nervous about ripping down that drywall- but you just made me feel even better about our decision to do it! :-)

I stumbles=d over from The Lettered Cottage & I hope you won't be hatin' on me when I suggest you make things look less symmetrical in you wall set up. break up thoise lovely blue frames into a few groupings, break up the initials so they are at different levels. The wall itself is wonderful but the matchy-matchy spacing makes it look less rustic. just a suggestion.

Yeah. I'm seriously envious of your DIY skills. And I'm totally doing a feature on all your bedroom projects.

And...my three girls totally act like that in the dressing room. They don't look as old as yours, but when they are...they will totally do that. Totally.

Just wondering...can I be you went I grow up?

Looks wonderful! I would have to put it on the wall opposite my bed so I could look at it all the time:)

Are the doors just old hollow doors that you cut into strips?? How wide were your strips?? And how did you attach your strips?? I am thinking of doing this in my living room outside wall.....so I need some more information.
THanks
Deb

GRAMS said...

Okay, yes they are hollow core doors that I just took apart. See the post called I HAVE BED BUGS. The strips were 2 1/2 inches wide and I spaced them using Popsicle sticks. I have a pneumatic nail gun so that's how they went on the wall. Don't try hard to make it perfect because old lathe walls were not. Have fun.

I'm trying to help my husband envision a wall like this and now I've found IT! Good JOB!
BTW I'm LDS too and my son is off to Iraq in Jan.
I hope to be a G'ma just like you one day, but I don't sew. Hmm, there's still time!
Thanks for the inspiration!
